Equity Components

The OEI offers online counseling, tutoring, student readiness online support services, and various student support tools that provide equitable access to services for online students in the CCC system. Developing equity-based components for course design, instruction, programs, student services, and the online campus allows OEI to support colleges in meeting the goals outlined in their Student Equity Plans (SEP) and expand those goals and activities to encompass online students if not referenced in their SEP.

Equity Rubric

The Work Group drafted an Equity Rubric for Online Instruction based upon the model created by the De Anza College Office of Equity, Social Justice and Multicultural Education. Rubrics for counseling, student services, programs and departments are being developed. With the support of the OEI Chief Professional Development Officer, equity-minded principles and practices are being incorporated into the OEI Rubric, along with professional development and learning opportunities to support those efforts.

Model Program and Course

An OEI pilot college has been selected for implementation of the equity framework in the online college young woman sitting on floor with laptop and documentsprogram, including instruction and course design, accessibility, online student services (Financial Aid, Admission and Records), and continued student support services (counseling, tutoring, and student engagement). A Canvas course, Math 110 (Elem Statistics), offered through the Course Exchange, has been selected to launch with equity-embedded principles and practices, such as Open Education Resources. The online college program and Canvas course will have professional development components that will include Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Pedagogy, Cultural Humility, and other high impact practices.
